Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre
was an American anthology series that ran on NBC from 1963 through 1967
and was sponsored by Chrysler. The format ran from musical to comedy
to drama. Generally, each episode ran for an hour, but there were some
special presentations that ran for 90 minutes. Although he starred in
some episodes, Hope usually just introduced each episode with a few
jokes. In syndication, without an opening or closing by Hope, the
series was billed as Universal Star Time and Theatre of the Stars.
Jocelyn starred in an episode called Escape Into Jeopardy, which originally aired on May 28, 1965 (Season 2, Episode 23). Based on reports in Variety, this episode was shot in the latter part of January 1965.
I have not been able to track down a copy of this episode. An IMDB user gives the following plot summary:
"This
story takes place in 1943 in the South of France. James Franciscus is a
jailed counterfeiter whose escape is made easy by the authorities to
ask him to get back plates for making forged dollar notes, which could
jeopardize US economic war efforts. Our lead Franciscus must infiltrate
resistance - underground fighters - in order to succeed in his task. Not
very surprising time waster but good enough to keep you awake for forty
five minutes. Except for the very downbeat ending, which I loved so
much."
I did find the publicity still shown below, with the following snipe on the back:
"DANGER LURKS...James Franciscus and Jocelyn Lane, backed by Leif Erickson, face ominous times in 'Escape into Jeopardy,' airing, in color, on 'Bob Hope Presents The Chrysler Theatre' Friday, May 28 (8:30-9:30 p.m. EDT) over NBC-TV."
As a general rule, I have elected not to include water-marked images on the blog, but since there is so little available for this appearance, I am including these publicity photos:
