Jocelyn Lane: Recap 1960 - 1963

1960

Jocelyn spent most of 1960 working across continental Europe.  She appeared on the cover of the January 12, 1960 edition of a German publication called Funk und Film.

Here she is in a January 1960 Dutch magazine:

Urlatori alla sbarra (aka Howlers of the Dock, filmed around the end of 1959) was released in Italy on March 13, 1960.

In May of, I think, 1960, Jocelyn attended the premier of Suddenly Last Summer with Mara at the Columbia Theatre in London (I think it was probably 1960, since the film was released in the U.S. in December of 1959).

Jocelyn appeared on the June 4, 1960 cover of the Spanish publication, Gaceta Illustrada.

In the summer of 1960, Jocelyn was probably in Austria filming Mit Himbeergeist geht alles besser.

In the fall of 1960, Jocelyn was cast in Robin Hood and the Pirates in Italy, and there was talk that she might appear in Playboy.
  • The October 12, 1960 Variety reported from Rome that "Lex Barker, Rossana Rory and Jackie Lane cast in 'Robin Hood and the Pirates'."
  • Army Archerd reported in his October 28, 1960 Variety column that "Jackie Lane, the bosomy 21-year-old starlet debuting in her first Hollywood-sponsored pic, 'Aimez-Vous Brahms?' may be Playboy's first European Playmate."
She was on the back cover of the September 24, 1960 issue of the German publication Funk und Film:

Jocelyn graced the cover of the October 29, 1960 edition of the Italian publication Tempo.

Also, at some point in the fall of 1960, Jocelyn was in France for filming of Goodbye Again.

Mit Himbeergeist geht alles besser (aka The Magnificent Rogue) was released in West Germany on November 1, 1960.  On November 18, it received a gala showing in Vienna, Austria at the Forum Kino.

By the end of the year, it was being reported that her new flame was Italian playboy Prince Dado Ruspoli with whom Mara had been hot and heavy at one time.
  • December 3, 1960 Dorothy Kilgallen column:  "Prince Dado Ruspoli, the Italian playboy who came out of near-retirement to be best man at the unusual nuptials of John Barrymore and Gaby Palazzolo, has a new flame - Jackie Lane.  She's the younger sister of Mara Lane, who for many years was the prince's favorite date."
Robin Hood e i pirati (aka Robin Hood and the Pirates) premiered in Italy on December 24, 1960.

Here are some French press photos of Jocelyn from December of 1960, but I do not know the story behind them:

Here is a link to a photo of Jocelyn at an unknown event around 1960:

1961

It appears that Jocelyn may have been dating French actor Pierre Brice in the winter of 1961.  He was particularly popular in Germany.  Here are some French press photos of the two of them together at that time:

Jocelyn appeared on the cover of the April 21, 1961 edition of the French publication Cine Revue.

Jocelyn on the cover of the May 13, 1961 edition of a Portugese publication called O Seculo Ilustrado:

Goodbye Again was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 1961, and it garnered some publicity for Jocelyn in the U.S.
  • Walter Winchell's May 15, 1961 column:  "Jackie Lane is Britain's answer to Jane Russell and company in 'Goodbye Again.' A redhead beautnik who was born in Vienna and went to school at New Rochelle, N.Y."
  • June 26, 1961 Dorothy Kilgallen column:  "Yves Montand's torrid bedroom scenes with Jackie Lane in 'Goodbye Again' will be seen in toto in Europe, but they'll be considerably cut for the version to be distributed in the United States."
Goodbye Again made its theatrical debut in the U.S in June of 1961.

In the summer of 1961, Jocelyn was in Bristol, England for filming of Two and Two Make Six (aka The Girl Swappers).

Jocelyn was in England in the fall of 1961 for filming of Operation Snatch.
  • September 27, 1961 Variety:  London Keep Films, a company owned jointly by producers Jules Buck and actor Peter O'Toole, last week started filming its first production at Associated British Elstree studios. It is "Operation Snatch" starring Terry-Thomas, George Sanders and Jackie Lane, and is for distribution through Regal International.
Jet Storm (filmed back in the Spring of 1959) was released to U.S. theaters in the fall of 1961.

Here are some modeling photos that appear to have been shot around the fall of 1961:

Jocelyn appeared on the cover of the December 7, 1961 edition of the French publication Cine Revue, wearing a costume from Operation Snatch.

An article in a 1961 Turkish magazine:

In late 1961, Jocelyn was probably in Italy for work on Marte, dio della guerra.  She still managed to make it into U.S. gossip columns.
  • December 28, 1961, Dorothy Kilgallen's column: "English actress Jackie Lane considers herself an authority on Baby Pignatari.  She reveals:  'Baby's not like other men whose work comes first.  He really lives with his private life.  It's his whole existence.'"
These pictures look like they may have been taken in 1961, around the time of filming of Operation Snatch:

In the late winter/early spring of 1962, Jocelyn appears to have been in England for work on an episode of The Cheaters.

Operation Snatch opened in the U.K. in March of 1962.

Marte, dio della guerra (aka The Son of Hercules vs. Venus) premiered in Italy on March 24, 1962.

The episode of The Cheaters in which Jocelyn appeared (Legs, 50,000 Each) aired on U.K. television on April 28, 1962.

Two and Two Make Six was released in the U.K. in May of 1962.

In the late spring/early summer of 1962, Jocelyn was in Italy for filming of I tromboni di Fra Diavolo.

Jocelyn was featured on the cover and in an article in the June 1962 edition of the British publication Photoplay.  The picture appears to be of her in costume for Operation Snatch.

Over the summer of 1962, Jocelyn remained in Italy for work on Le sette folgori di assur, which was being shot around Rome. She was featured on the cover of the August 25, 1962 edition of the Italian publication Tempo.

Operation Snatch debuted in U.S. theaters in September of 1962.

In the late summer of 1962, Jocelyn was probably in England for filming of an episode of Armchair Theatre.

In September of 1962 Jocelyn attended the second week of the Venice Film Festival, resulting in one of the most bizarre stories of her career. She reported to authorities that she accompanied an American actor back to Rome, whereupon he held her captive, until she escaped through a window in  her underwear!  If anyone has any idea who that actor was, I would certainly like to know about it.
  • September 12, 1962, Variety:  Jackie Lane reported as one of the thespians in attendance at the second week of the festival.
  • October 1, 1962 wire service article in the U.S. (that does not look like a picture of our girl):

The episode of Armchair Theatre in which Jocelyn appeared, Afternoon of a Nymph, aired on U.K. television on September 30, 1962.

I tromboni di Fra Diavolo premiered in Italy on October 11, 1962.

Le sette folgori di assur (aka War Gods of Babylon) premiered in Italy on November 24, 1962.

Jocelyn was featured on the cover of the November 24, 1962 edition of the French publication CineRevue:

A sexy picture of Jocelyn graced the cover of the December 22, 1962 edition of the British publication Parade.  It appears that the picture was probably taken in the 1950's.

1963

It appears that Jocelyn spent her time in 1963 in England and Italy looking for acting work, though it only appears to have resulted in one episode of a U.K. television series.  Indeed, that credit, an episode of the anthology series Love Story, has only been added to Jocelyn's IMDB listing within the last couple of months.

The May 8, 1963 Variety reported "Jackie Lane" as "one of the many film names linked with films in Rome in recent months."

In the late spring/early summer of 1963, Jocelyn was probably in England for work on an episode of Love Story.

Jocelyn was featured on the July 27, 1963 cover of the British publication Parade (though she is not featured on the inside), now having transitioned to a red-head.

The episode of Love Story in which Jocelyn appeared, Some Grist From Mervyn's Mill, aired on U.K. television on August 12, 1963.

The December 18, 1963 Variety, reporting from Rome, stated:  "Jackie Lane in from London."

Here is a 1963 Swedish bubble gum card:

And a 1963 Dutch playing card:

Finally here are a couple of pictures that appear to be from the early 1960's.  One is an autographed photo and the other appears to be some type of scooter ad.  I'm not exactly sure where to place them, so I'll just post them here for now, instead of holding them back for later identification.
